One of Sheboygan County’s All-Time Greatest Performances
Posted by Bardonbowlingcenters in General on December 29th, 2009
Wednesday, December 23rd the Broadway Pattern for the ELITE Pro Shop Challenge League ended with our segment champion averaging nearly 250 for the night to snatch the points lead, while being upstaged by one of Sheboygan County’s all-time greatest performances.
Mike Walters finished off the segment on games of 247-258-236-247 for a season high 988 series (at the time) and grabbed 18 out of a possible 20 points to overtake youth bowler Sarah Paasch by 2 points. Mike is now qualified for the year-ending Grand Championship tournament in April along with segment #1 and #2 champions Steve Richter and Ben Limberg. Sarah Paasch and Ben Cleveland retain their Wild Card positions through the second straight month.
The highlight of the evening was one of the greatest performances in Sheboygan Bowling history with Steve Schmit rolling a 279 triplicate series for an astoundingly impressive 837 series on near-Sport Compliant lane conditions. He closed out the 4-game set with a 233 game for a record 1070 series. Steve started with the first 9 strikes in game 1 before leaving a solid 9-pin and than repeated that pattern in game #3. In the middle game Steve started with the first 5 strikes, left a solid 9-pin again and ran the rest of the frames out for his 279 game.
To know Steve and his style it’s amazing to see that that the most unlikely pins kept him from bowling immortality with a 900 series. 9-pin leaves are usually reserved for the power game and with Steve’s relatively straight style to see that pin be left time and time again was laughable. Our congratulations go out to Steve Schmit; it was one of the most amazing bowling performances I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness.
